It's, unfortunately, official

Super Joe Sakic formally announced his retirement today. What a major bummer. Joe is the epitome of a professional athlete and his retirement is a great loss to professional sports in general and hockey specifically. He is a fierce competitor and plays the game with intensity, honor and integrity. If ever there was a professional athlete that should be looked up to as a role model, Joe Sakic is it. We're sorry to see you go, Joe. But we're also looking forward to how you will continue to be a part of and influence hockey in the years to come!

Noooooooo.....

Say it isn't so! Reports are coming in today that Super Joe Sakic will announce his retirement tomorrow. If true, it will be a sad day for Colorado Avalanche fans as well as hockey in general. Click here for the story from the Associated Press.

Local Celebrity

Here's a nice little article in our local paper about a young guy in our neighbourhood that I work out with. He's going to Concordia in Minnesota this fall to play NCAA hockey.

He's also playing on the summer team I've put together. So far we're playing .500 hockey. We've got a tough game coming up Thursday night against a team in the division above us. I think we can definitely win this game as long as we play smart and be disciplined about playing positions. Our goalie is an iron curtain and we've got plenty of speed so it should be a good game.

Summer Hockey and a new Twig

I've put together a team for summer in the Cascade Hockey League and our first game is this coming Sunday. We've got some pretty good talent and should be very competitive. In fact I'm predicting domination of our division. Also picked up a new stick for my birthday, an Easton S11. It's not as fancy as the S17, but I got a chance to use it this morning at stick and puck and I'm liking it. I went with an 85 flex instead of the 100 and even though it's a bit whippier than my synergy 350, I like the way it feels and it certainly helps my wrist shot. Should be a good summer season! We've got our own little website that you can check out here if you like: Mudskippers

Totems Win 3-1

I went to the Seattle Jr. Totems vs. Helena Bighorns from Montana tonight at Olympic View Arena. The tempo of the game was pretty good and the Totems came out on top. The first period was scoreless although the Totems had several scoring opportunites. The second period saw a flurry of action as the Totems tallied 3 goals. There were a few scrums in front of both nets and it looked as though a scrap or two might break out, but nothing materialized. The Totems did a great job of killing penalties and only allowed one goal in the third. I probably won't make it to the game tomorrow night, but I may try to catch it live online.

Metallica

I took our 2 older boys to their first concert on December 1st @ the Key Arena in Seattle. Here's a little video from that concert.
